M.P.H.A. BOARD MEETING MINUTES

MAY 6, 2003

 

The meeting was called to order by Pres. Gary Campbell at 7:15 p.m.

All board members were present.

Members present were Glen Peck and Wheeler Vance

Tres. Jerry Murphy presented the profit and loss statement. Danny Litteral made the motion to accept the statement and Gordon Rife 2nd.

Gary Campbell passed around a copy of the 2002 Show Rules to be reviewed by the board for changes and approval for the 2003 show season.

Gary presented the first change to be made. The gaits that will be called for in all High Point classes and the World Championship will be Mountain Walk, horses are to enter the ring at a flat walk and be at a loose rein.The Mountain Pleasure Gait will be called for.

Also discussion about #4 of the show rules pertaining to the altering of markings on the horse. This has always been in the show rules and has not been enforced The rules will be rewritten and published and available on the website before the first high point show.

James Murrell, Don Gabbard and Gordon Rife presented information about the Equine Affaire. There was  great reaponse from the crowd to the presentation.

James and Don commended Gordon for all his hard work, everything was very well planned and a great time was had by all.

James Murrel talked about the new flag and the new banner, they both look very good and the cost was $344.50

Don Gabbard passed around copies of an email from Jim Kelly. Mr. Kelly wishes to be the area rep. For North and South Carolina.

There was discussion about the position of area rep.in general. Some members of the board feel that every member should be representatives of the association.

Pollyanna Shouse presented the idea that if someone is to be an area rep. There should be specific duties not just a title. In the past area reps. Assisted members in getting their horses registered and getting the videoing done. Now that the video is no longer needed she feels that there is no need for the postion. All members should and are encouraged to do what ever they can to promote our breed and association.

Danny Litteral made the motion to dissolve the position of area reps.

Gary Campbell held the motion sighting that further discussion was needed.

A lengthy discussion about what could and would be expected of persons holding the area rep. Positions.

Don Gabbard is to draft a letter to each of the area reps already in place as to what is expected of them and how they can have input to the magazine and website.

Danny Litteral tabled his motion until the letter can be drafted and the area reps. Can be contacted.

The board agreed to send Mr. Kelly copies of all the promotional materials that are available.

The board also agreed to send Mr.Kelly the addresses of the members in North and South Carolina.

Pollyanna Shouse asked the board for discussion about the magazine, the printing cost of the magazine is considerably higher for the color photos in the issue, it was agreed that the color does look nice but that the cost is more than we need to spend.

It was decided to leave the covers in color and to have color as an option to peole htat want to advertise in color. The rest of the magazine will be black and white.

Gary Campbell discussed the idea of having an advertising comm.. There was discussion but there was no comm.. formed at this time.

General discussion about showing and how to raise member participation and involvment with the show 

Don Gabbard asked about the back log of paperwork that the registrar, Mildred Campbell has been working on, Gary reported that many of the problems had been solved and papers had been issued

Pollyanna Shouse told the board of a project the the Ranger Dist is working on in the Red River Gorge Area. The project will be used to tell people about the region thru the Gladie

Area Learning and Environmental Center. Pollyanna spoke with one of the rangers on the phone and told them about the print that we have entitled “Gladie Creek Crossing”. The ranger told Pollyanna that they would be in contact that possibly the print could be used in the center and possibly video footage of our horses in the gorge.

James Murrell volunteered to make M.P.H.A. registration sheets to be used at each High Point Show.

Gordon Rife announced the dates for the 2004 Equine Affaire, March 25-28.
