Mountain Pleasure Goes Country

With Billy Ray Cyrus

By Woody Isaac

For several months Ron Cyrus had been telling and showing videos of the beauty and excitement of Mountain Pleasure Horses to his son, Billy Ray. So, in early November I accompanied Ron to his son’s home in Tennessee. Naturally to back up what he had been telling and showing, we took along Comanache and a couple of his stable mates. From the moment we arrived at Billy Rays’ home, it was love at first sight for the horses. Billy’s wife Tish was first to climb aboard Sadie, owned by my wife Sheila. Sadie’s gentle disposition and easy gait was enough for Tish to remark "she would like for Sadie to be a part of their family".

Billy Ray has a beautiful 600 acre farm, which incidentally has some historical significance since the "Trail of Tears" runs through it. Although Billy Ray has some beautiful horses of his own, there was no doubt that the Mountain Pleasure Horses reign supreme this week.

When it was time to leave I was able to load all the horses. However, it took some promises to Billy Ray, Tish and their children that their new friends would be available for a return trip Tennessee or during their trips to Kentucky.

Editors Note: Billy Ray is pictured above on Comanche, owned by Woody and Sheila Isaac of Wellington, Kentucky. He is the current Champion Male Halter and Performance Stallion of the Mountain Pleasure Association. The association sincerely thanks Mr. Woody Isaac and Mr. Ron Cyrus for sharing this with us.
